10 Things In My Changing Bag

A girl is always attached to her handbag, but once you have a baby your changing bag is your new best friend. You literally can't go anywhere without it, because if you do, all hell will break loose! And as a handbag loving' lady, this is a fabulous excuse to have a great big fancy one, that rivals even Mary Poppins for the treasure trove of goods hidden inside!

So here's a little review of what I keep in my changing bag for me a Lochy...

1. Nappies!

I mean this ones a given right?! I always try to take out more than I think I'll need, because you don't know when you'll need to do an unexpected change and you might end up being out for longer than you expect.

My favourite nappies at the moment are Sainsbury's own.

In a size 1 they're a very reasonable £2 for 40, and they're really nice and soft in comparison to other brands I've tried in the past few weeks which feel just a step away from cardboard! And these ones also have the colour change technology to show when they're dirty.

However, I like to be as mindful as possible where the environment is concerned, so I'm planning to try a new brand; Kit and Kin. These are made with all natural materials and take just a few years to biodegrade - whereas most nappies can take 500 years to disappear!

Baby wipes.

With my belly getting rounder I stocked up on these ahead of Lochy's arrival, at under £6 for a huge box, this seemed to be a bargain too good to refuse. Particularly as Aldi have repeatedly won awards for their nappies and wipes. I can't complain about these at all in terms of their value for money or ability to do the job - although I haven't looked into the ethical factors of their production.

Also, can we just take a moment to appreciate how much better life is when you always have a wipe to hand! I've already lost count of all the times I've used one for something other than a nappy change.

2. Propolis Creme.

This gem of a multipurpose creme is one I've been using religiously for over a year - it is literally a miracle worker and can be used as anything from a general moisturiser to helping superficial cuts and grazes heal. Its also AMAZING on eczema and nappy rash!

Whats more, the company Forever Living, use only natural, gentle products and don't test on animals! Get yourself a tube here.

3. Milk.

As Lochy wasn't fed from the breast due to a tongue tie, I always need to make sure I have more than enough milk to hand - this includes expressed breast milk or powdered or instant formula and fresh bottles for each! It all adds to the bulk of the bag so I'm always a little envious of ladies who just carry around their supply in their bra!

4. Muslin.

These are my go to option for mopping up spills and um, well, sick! I spent at least a week battling with bibs at feed times to begin with, but it was pointless as Lochy's neck was so skinny they didn't actually catch anything, and milk would escape running down his neck on to his clothes anyway.

My friend Emma kindly got me a pack of jumbo muslins as a present and I love them, their really soft and as they're a larger size can also double up as a swaddle or light extra layer.

5. Change of clothes.

Times 2 at least! Sick, leaking nappies or god forbid, a poo explosion, I always make sure I have a couple of extra vests and sleep suits tucked in for Lochy.

6. Change mat.

Part of me wishes I had some super stylish and expensive changing bag, but no, it was £11.99 online and came with a zip purse, a change mat and bottle holder! Its pink... I thought it was red. But it does the job and means where ever I go I have something clean to lie Lochy down on, as well as keeping surfaces protected from any 'accidents'! On the few occasions I've forgotten to check its in the bag, I've really missed it.

7. Breast pads.

Always be prepared for a leak!!

8. Waffle.

Every boy, needs his trusty sidekick after all! He's too little to have the attachment yet, but Waffle was specially made for us so I like to get him out and about, it seems a shame to have him hidden at home!

9. Mummy's Stuff.

As I mentioned above, there's no point adding to the bulk of stuff you have to cart around with you, so your changing bag also doubles up as a handbag. Various pockets therefore have my keys, wallet, lip balm and other random items shoved into them!

10. My Camera

Addicted to blogging you never know when you're going to have the opportunity for that perfect photo - and as a mum you don't want to miss out on capturing those special moments! Its also nice to have a bag big enough to tuck it into, and as we usually have the buggy to, I don't even have to struggle with the weight of it!
