Time Flies - 2 Months Old Already?!

First of all, I can't believe I'm writing this already; when did my tiny baby boy become 2 months old?! Of course at some point I'll be reflecting on years gone by, not mere weeks, but hey! I'm enjoying every minute.

It's amazing how much he has changed already - usually its a case of those changes in life (the things we see everyday) going unnoticed, but as I've quickly discovered, when babies are this young, you notice the changes occurring right in front of your very eyes! Just this morning I woke up to feed him and he seemed to have grown overnight! Do they do that? I think they do!

Physical Development.

Baby development - Cross-eyed

Newborns have a very distinctive look - excess fluid and the (lets call it) 'drama' of birth leaves them with squishy, slightly swollen features, they don't open their eyes much and you stare at them expectantly waiting for something to happen, and nothing does. Suddenly baby is 2 months old, and the difference is staggering!

His huge blue eyes are now more often awake and alert and over the weeks you're able to see him start to focus. He used to pull hilarious cross-eyed faces as he tried to make sense of the colourful world around him!

He's also become adept at holding his head up - he's been strong from the word go, but now he has no trouble in holding himself upright which has made a big difference when carrying him around (I can't wait until he can sit up!) But perhaps my favourite development of all has been the smiles! Without warning he will all of a sudden start cooing and his expression brightens, followed by some beautiful, beaming grins! It really is so heartwarming to see your own baby smile for the first time (and not just in his sleep!)

As I've mentioned previously Lochy struggled with weight gain in his first couple of weeks. Although still quite small he has made great progress with his weight gain and feeding. For these first 8 weeks he's been exclusively in 'Tiny Baby' sized sleep suits and vests! Even though on the labels this states 'up to 5lb' they've lasted him right up to nearly 9lb, and he's only just moving up to 'newborn' size! On the upside, his clothes have lasted far longer than I ever thought they would!

An Apple a Day...

Between 6 - 8 weeks you and your baby trundle off to the doctor to have a check up...

Lochy was given a glowing report, with comments on how strong he was as he utterly refused to all the doctor to pull his legs down from their scrunched position!

Our next trip unfortunately involves needles when Lochy goes for his jabs. He's already had quite a few dealings with needles thanks to his first week when he was regularly tested for infection as a precaution, at a day old he even had a canal fitted in his tiny little hand for antibiotics. I'm hoping he won't notice too much as before, although now all his senses are more mature I have a feeling he will!

I still can't believe he's over 2 months old... and its the end of April... WHERE IS THE TIME GOING!!!
